The overall outcome of SBTs is very favorable. The 5-year survival rates for patients with disease that is stages I–IIIb are between 88% and >95% [18]. For patients with stage I tumors, the risk of recurrence or the development of a second SBT has been estimated to be only 5%–10% [7, 8, 14]. Other than the adverse effect of invasive implants, there is no agreement in the literature as to which prognostic factors are important [7, 8, 14, 19]. According to most investigators, SBTs with micropapillary pattern or SBTs with microinvasion have a prognosis similar to that of tumors lacking these features [7, 8, 20].
